Mining with Monero on Windows 10 is pretty simple and straightforward.

Getting Started Mining Monero On Windows 10

The first thing we are going to do is create a folder called Mining on your hard drive.

Now that we have the folder lets download all of the files that we will need and extract them into that folder.

Download XMR-Stak

To mine with your CPU and GPU you will need a program called XMR-Stak. You can download the latest release here and you will want to choose the xmr-stak-cpu-win64.zip download.

Extract the contents into your mining folder as seen below:

Once extracted open the folder and double click the xmr-stak application. Windows 10 will alert you that this application is unrecognized and will give you a More Info link like below.

Click the More info link and then click the Run anyway button.

The program will begin to ask you a series of questions. For this guide we are mining Monero. You are free to use the below examples if you do not wish to research your own pool.

  • Do you want to use the HTTP interface? – 0
  • Please enter the currency that you want to mine: – monero7
  • Pool address: –  pool.supportxmr.com:7777
  • Username – <your wallet address>
  • Password – x
  • Rig identifier for pool-side statistics (needs pool support). Can be empty: – Leave empty by pressing Enter
  • Does this pool port support TLS/SSL? Use no if unknown. (y/N) – n
  • Do you want to use nicehash on this pool? (y/n) – n
  • Do you want to use multiple pools? (y/n) – n

Now the program will start running and you will be mining!

Optimizing CPU, AMD and Nvidia Configurations

The program will do its best to suggest the best configuration for your CPU and GPU but more than likely it will not be optimal.

To find your optimal configuration check out XMRStak.com and search for your CPU and GPU model. You will find a list of submitted configurations that you can try to see what works out best for you.

Exclude XMR-Stak From Windows Defender

Windows Defender now will flag xmr-stak-cpu as dangerous. This is due to botnets using it to mine. The program itself is safe. You can view my article on excluding xmr-stak-cpu here.

Thanks alot for the good information. What would one do to take this to the next level. This guy here outlines something similar (http://www.thecryptovault.net/) but suggests you can put together a mining rig for $2000 US, do you have a link to putting a rig together with costs and installation help?
